On the second week of school, me and my new classmates went to pulau ubin for obs. on the bus to punggol jetty, Jonathan and Gabriel were telling me and Shaun about some funny stuff they did in camps, etc (cos they were from scouts) and we laughed our way to the jetty. then we split into groups and got ferried to pulau ubin. There, we got greeted by the obs staff, and we met our friendly instructor, Cindy. We had some icebreakers and then went to change into wet suits for kayaking. kayaking was dam fun la. cos my triyak (cos it was for three pple) buddies and I were like five times faster than other triyaks. we learnt how to manoeuvre a triyak, had capsize drills… and played a lot of games out in the sea, on our triyaks. this is most probably the most fun activity. I forgot what was the order of the activities from this part onwards XP, but I’ll just talk bout some random ones. - Trekking: on one of the days, we had to move to another campsite to spend the next two nights, so we carried our camping stuff, our tents (which is super heavy, with the groundsheet, flysheet, poles and stuff), food, water, and manymany other things. and I, together with Jonathan and Gabriel, were the food ICs. so we had to carry everyone’s food with us. wth. imagine canned food, bread, biscuits etc. we gave some out to our groupmates, but it was still a lot. and it was also bulky. so we decided to squeeze our stuff into two bags, so that one guy can carry the food. I got to carry the bag. the heavy bag. on the trek, we had to find these little signboards around pulau ubin with quotes on them. omg, I forgot them alredy. =(. we somehow managed to survive the trek and made our way to the second campsite. - Rock climbing: at the second campsite, we had to climb a rockwall. me and some friends were assigned to the most challenging side of the rockwall. and only one or two managed to reach the top. and I was one of them. =D our instructor told us that she’ll give us extra time for rest for every person who reached the top. and we got about 23 minutes.(but they were spent cos we were late for a gathering.) - Sleeping on water: on one of the nights, we set up our tents at some wilderness area. and cos we were the latest to reach the clearing, we took the lousiest area, which was beside a depression... that night, a few minutes after we entered our tents for sleeping, it started raining. we were happy. cos we liked little drizzles which keep temperatures down. lala. then the rain became heavier and heavier. wth. i call it a downpour. and our tent, started flooding. millimeters at a time, it reached a record height of around 7cm... =p especially when our tent was near depression which stored water. so, we decided to put our bags on our lifejackets, so it didnt get soaked. then, we continued enjoying sleeping on our cool "water bed". and it was dam cold, with the rain, wind and flood. but we couldnt wear jackets or longsleeved shirts, cos they'll get wet, so we shivered and tried very hard to sleep through the night. lol. in the morning, there was a stench. of rainwater, mud, soil, perspiration etc. =( in short, the tent was stinky, cold, wet, and disgusting. however bad it was, it was a really memorable night!
We did many other fun stuff, maybe I will add more next time.
I would like to thank my tentmates, Jonathan, Gabriel and PeiYuan for being such nice tentmates. And also for helping me out with stuff like building the tent and cooking, which all of them are so proficient at. cos they are all scouts!!! and I only found out on day 2. I was slow. secondly, I would like to thank my instructor, Cindy. for taking care, teaching and guiding us for the five days we were there. thirdly, I would thank my classmates for going through this obs journey with me. lastly, my family and friends in Singapore for hoping I hav fun, wishing I hav a safe journey, and patiently waiting for my return. thanks!
This is me packing my things back, after that long trek, at night.
This is a photo of the rock wall which i didnt climb. and some peoples' legs and thighs. Look at how messy the place is. This is us on the ferry back to the main island of singapore. (I couldnt take much photos cos they sorta kept our cameras. =p)
